k-rail public art

K-Rail Public Art Project

A collaboration with the City of Santa Barbara

Celebrating downtown in partnership with our local business community!

The Office of Arts & Culture and City of Santa Barbara are partnering to invite artists, creatives, and cultural organizations to submit proposals for an original design treatment for 8 public K-Rails (traffic barriers) that demarcate the beginning of Santa Barbara’s State Street Pedestrian Corridor at the intersection of State St. and Haley St.

We seek to collaborate with artists to develop artwork that will celebrate our community and businesses, energize the area, and beautify the downtown corridor.

The selected design will be reproduced on a vinyl wrap that will be affixed to the pedestrian-facing side (not the traffic side) of the barriers and exhibited for a period of several months this summer. The art will be located in immediate proximity to businesses, restaurants, retail shops, sidewalks, and streets. Submissions should be family-friendly.

The selected artist will receive an honorarium of $1,500.

Thanks to all of the talented local artists who submitted!
